Shocking Truth: Role of RSS, Congress and Communists in Gandhi Assassination
Who is really responsible for Gandhiji’s murder? Most of the political parties or organisations in India (except Jan Sangh – today’s Bharatiya Janata Party or BJP- which was not born then) can equally be held responsible in instigating Gandhi Assassination. The Communists, RSS, Muslim League and Hindu Mahasabha were unhappy with him and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration if people call them as ‘Gandhi-haters’. But it was the Congress Party that was morally responsible for his death.
Shocked? Surprised? Can’t believe? Try to go by historical facts and truth – unbiased!
On January 30, 1948, Nathuram Vinayak Godse , a member of All-India Hindu Mahasabha, assassinated Mahatma Gandhi at the Birla House (now Gandhi Smriti) in New Delhi. One can dismiss what Godse did as an act of a lunatic bigot. But what was the real ideology, and political or psychological situation that gave birth to such distorted mindset in him?
Check your facts now, one by one. Who controlled Hindu Mahasabha (HM)? Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, the four time president of Indian National Congress (INC), was a senior member of the HM. He was a president of the special session of HM in Gaya in 1922 and in Kashi in 1923.
Father of the veteran Marxist leader Somnath Chatterjee (14th Speaker of the Lok Sabha) Nirmal Chandra Chatterjee was the president of HM.
Prominent INC leaders like Lala Lajpat Rai and Balakrishna Shivram Moonje were working for HM. In 1926 Shri Vitthalbhai Patel (brother of Vallabhbhai Patel) and Motilal Nehru (father of Jawaharlal Nehru) attended the HM session at Calcutta (Kolkatta), says records.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) founded in 1925 was, in fact, a fierce competitor of HM. The RSS was formed by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar who left HM for good.
Incidentally, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, who served as Central Minister in Jawaharlal Nehru’s cabinet, was also an ex- HM member. He established the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS) (today’s BJP) in 21 October 1951, in collaboration with the RSS.
Till 1937 many people in India were connected with three prominent organizations. So people belonged to the trio – Congress, HM and the RSS – have the same lineage. It was not uncommon Congress members working in HM and vice versa.
Mahatma Gandhiji had ONLY one weakness in his life – it was Jawaharlal Nehru (I still don’t understand why Gandhiji was obsessed with Nehru). Nehru was not elected to the post of INC party president. He was simply nominated to the post by Gandhiji. INC had since then hijacked the freedom struggle from the likes of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and caused HM and the RSS pitch against each other. That’s how the trio-combination had parted.
Meanwhile, the Communists Party of India (CPI) heaped abuse on Gandhiji, the Congress, Jayaprakash Narayan and Netaji. The Communists senior members were also from INC, hence had the same Congress lineage. In November 1940, it lampooned Gandhiji’s individual Satyagraha movement mercilessly.
CPI went to the extent of adopting a resolution (on 13 April 1943) to support Muslim League’s (ML) separatists demand for Pakistan. Communists proclaimed the thesis that “India should be divided into many parts as a collection of separate nationalities”. But Pakistan, which was formed with the support of CPI, turned wiser and saw the future threat from Communists in advance – they banned Communist party!
HM was no less. It also formed coalition ministries with the Muslim League (which too opposed to the Quit India Movement along with the Communists) in the provinces of Bengal and Sindh. HM members also joined Ghulam Hussain Hidayatullah’s ML government. The HM has been more political, ever since the days of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar who was elected president of the HM in 1937.
NOW, based on this background, reflect on “Assassination of Gandhi”.
Any homicide detectives would always check to see who benefits most from the death. “Who is benefited?” would be the first question in any murder case. In Gandhiji’s case, nobody has asked that question. Why? All fingers would be pointing towards the ruling Congress party then.
Gandhiji wrote a letter just one day before his death in which he condemned the Congress party and its expansionary policy and propaganda.
Gandhiji wanted to form the Lok Seva Sangh (People Service Group). He wanted to persuade most of the Congress members to join his new task and quit Congress.
If Gandhiji had gone ahead with his plans for a Lok Seva Sangh as he was planning before he died, this today’s so-called ‘Indian National Congress’ would have been a big joke or meme today! (Incidentally, today’s Congress Party has nothing to do with freedom struggle. It is a faction of the faction after split in the original congress in 1977. From that faction, Nehru’s daughter, Indira Priyadarshini Nehru floated her own brand – Congress (I). Her husband’s name was Feroze Jehangir ‘Ghandy’. She is grandmother of today’s Congress high command, Rahul Gandhi). They just used the name ‘Congress’ and surname ‘Gandhi’ to encash the basic patriotic emotion of Indians.
If fingers have to pointed, the direct responsibility for Gandhiji’s safety was of the ruling Congress party. Gandhiji was killed in the fifth assassination attempt. The Congress ministry was given a list of suspects after the fourth attempt, and Godse and Narayan Apte were named in it. There is no record of increased security being provided to Gandhiji after this report was filed.
Where was A.N. Bhatia, the plainclothes policeman, the security of Gandhi on the day of Gandhi Assassination? Why he had been suddenly assigned elsewhere that day, and no replacement had been appointed? Why did Gurbachan Singh, who was usually walked in front of Gandhi, go elsewhere that time? Why did no police intervene during the unfortunate event?
Gandhiji was not given any medical treatment after he was shot and taken to Birla house. He was shot thrice, and the chances of recovery were close to none, but the question remains – he was breathing after getting shot, why wasn’t he taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital or Safdarjang hospital, each only 4 KMs away?
The Prime Minister Nehru could have taken the moral responsibility of the Gandhi Assassination and resigned from the post. Instead, the Congress party exploited the saddest situation. They took Gandhi Assassination as a catalyst to cement the Congress as a national political party. Party’s goal was to assert the power of the government and legitimize the Congress Party’s control.
Hence, the Congress leadership played it well and banned RSS, HM and many other opponent political parties for nearly a year and Gandhiji’s death resulted in lakhs of innocent people’s arrests, mostly members of these parties.
So, it was the Congress that utilized the Gandhi Assassination very well to become powerful in India.
RSS made a clean break from Godse and his co-conspirators, claiming Godse had no affiliation with RSS after 1930. In fact, Hindu Mahasabha was a competitor of RSS. (In 1943, Savarkar’s office wrote a letter to SL Mishra addressing the problem of RSS workers actually “preaching” against the HM, and said that it would be best if the Sabhaites “better leave the Sangh… and start their own Hindu Sabha volunteer corps.”)
Savarkar’s hindutva was very different than hindutva of RSS. Savarkar was an atheist and his views about superstitions and some of the traditions in Hinduism would not be acceptable to Hindus even today. For example, he strongly criticized cow worship. And, he fought against caste system earnesly. (Today, you know every politicians make use of caste system to garner votes).
Savarkar was acquitted, Godse and his partner Apte were hanged, and the authority of the Congress government was reinforced.
It doesn’t mean RSS is less. RSS would have been happy hearing about Gandhi Assassination. A lot of RSS workers celebrated it as they believed Gandhi was appeasing Muslims.
What was the status of the CPI (There was no CPI (M) then as both were united), the first leading opposition party in the Lok Sabha? The CPI at its Second Congress (1948) decided a political mobilisation and mass struggle of the Indian working class on revolutionary lines against the Congress. As mentioned above, Gandhiji was its arch-enemy. What’s more, its violent ideology wouldn’t sync with Gandhiji’s non-violence.
Gandhiji’s letter to Communist leader P C Joshi on June 11, 1944 is self-explanatory:
“MY DEAR JOSHI,
I had expected a prompt reply to the questions I had raised at our meeting. Meanwhile some additional questions have arisen which please, answer when you answer my first questions.
1. What is the meaning of “people” in “people’s war”? Does it mean war on behalf of India’s millions, or the Negroes in East, South or West Africa, or the Negroes of America, or all of them? Are the Allies engaged in such a war?
2. Are the finances of the Communist Party, represented by you, subject to public audit? If they are, may I see them?
3. It is stated that the Communist Party has actively helped the authorities to arrest leaders and organizers of labour strikes during the last two years.
4. The Communist Party is said to have adopted the policy of infiltrating the Congress organization with a hostile intent.
5. Is not the policy of the Communist Party dictated from outside?
Yours sincerely,
M. K. Gandhi”
No comments. Today you can see the Marxists are also making use of Gandhi Assassination to beat up Sangh Parivar. What a joke!
All political parties of today were formed by ex-congress men. Dr.Syama Prasad left Nehru to form Jan Sangh while Indira left INC to form Congress (I) – hence INC is the predecessor of all parties, including that of BJP’s. Hence BJP’s ‘Congress Mukt Bharat’ is another joke. BJP has also adopted Gandhian Socialism.
The biggest joke ever cracked in India must be today’s Congress Party’s claim on freedom struggle, INC and Gandhi legacy! They do not have any more claim on those than that of NCP, BJP, Janatha, SP,BSP, TC etc. etc…Even the newly-formed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) used the legacy of freedom struggle and Gandhian philosophy.
No party can claim a ‘holier-than-thou’ stand. And no party or leader can exclusively claim Gandhiji’s legacy?
For, Gandhiji is father of ALL “true Indians”. It’s a psychological term – he is the father of the concept or idea called India. He is father not in physical terms. Gandhi is our ‘Manasa Pita’ (mental father). Had there been a methodology for DNA Test on Mind, most of our politicians would have gone out from inheriting Gandhi’s fatherhood. Their Manasa Pitas are aliens!

This is a bullshit article.
the biggest beneficiary of the death of indira gandhi was CONGRESS. BJP got only 2 seats in 1984 elections.Even in 1991 elections ,had rajiv not died ,congress could have been ousted.compare the results of the seats where the polling took place pre and post assasination.Congress is the world champion in getting emotive sympathy votes.it continues to encash that trait even now.
Who benefitted by the murder , if this is the criteria , who benefitted by murder of Indira and Rajiv Gandhi? It is only bjp and RSS . Today it is proven.
Does it mean they were behind these murders.
If BJP or janasangh which is established by the then RSS leaders is not at all responsible how other parties are responsible for Gandhis murder. Mr Pai, do not weave web of words to plead the case of janasangh or RSS . Truth in a society is what people in general believed at that time. For that matter if we do not accept truth and rely on court judgements which rely on facts brought before the court rather than truth , we will be doing great injustice to history . Our culture or Hindu religion has lot of contradictory stories and we have kings, ma third, purohits who are pious and equal no of hypocritical persons including traitors. For that matter every society has such history. It will be foolish to be proud of everything in ones own caste , religion, culture as that negates the necessity of reforms and refinement. It is a fact that history is written by those in power and to that extent history is in the hands of those in power.
