Is Horoscope Match Necessary for Marriages?

horo1Few years ago a young boy and girl contacted me: “Sir – is horoscope matching is MUST for the marriage?”

“Why?” I asked.

“We are in love. We want to marry and live together…”

“Good. Did your parents approve your marriage?”

“Our parents are not allowing us to marry only because our horoscope is not matching. My friends suggested us to contact you for a genuine advice…”

“Hmm…If you believe in horoscope, you MUST check and marry accordingly. If you don’t believe in it, there is no problem at all…”

“Sir, we wanted a concrete opinion. We really want to marry. But as per our Vedic scriptures and Gita we can’t marry without horoscope match, right?”

“That’s strange… Horoscope matching was not even heard in Vedic times. No authentic scriptures like Veda, Upanishads, Gitas, Brahma Sutra, and Dharma Sastra talk about Horoscope Matching marriage. It has NOTHING to do with any original sacred texts. ”

“Really? Then why do they insist on Vedic Horoscope Matching?”

“There could be Vedic Pizza, Vedic Street Dance, Vedic Yo-yo, Vedic Inner wear too… It’s all marketing gimmicks! Our great sages who wrote Veda didn’t say such things.”

“But our family astrologer vouch that astrology is part of Veda. That’s why he practices Vedic astrology,” he said.

“Jyotisha is one among six auxiliary disciplines related to Veda, known as Vedanga (limbs of the Veda). It is primarily concerned with the preparation of a calendar to fix the date of sacrificial rituals. It also deals with time measurement, forecasting movement of Sun, Moon and planetary movements. In Vedic times, Jyotish meant astronomy in all its aspects. Please continue reading at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N9PAGLT

    Hi Sir,

I think we shouldn’t look vedic astrology as predictive one rather corrective one. As you clearly explained Jyotisha was used in vedic times as well to find exact time for doing rituals. On a corollary the same can be used to find bad times. As we belief in our santan dharma reincarnation is based on our karma. So we should look Janam horoscope as our last life good and bad deeds and the result of that what we are taken birth at right time or bad time. Its just like a negative of a photo in a photography. Once we have the negative copy we can develop good photo by exposing right amount of light. The key (exposure of light) lies within us how we want to expose our photo.

Whereas horoscope shouldn’t be “THE” decisive factor for any like decision making like marriage or buying house, whereas it has to be used as guide to know about oneself like a sign board on the highways while driving. I think just due to some fake astrologers we can’t conclude entire vedic astrology as a fake.

PS: I am not an astrologer by profession 🙂

I fully agree with you. My wife married me without any horoscope matching. With the blessing of God we are leading a happy life. We love everyone, believe in all good things and do what best we can to others. Our needs are limited and expectations are few. We are thus contended. We believe in respecting all. I firmly believe that horoscope is not a must in marriage. A few of my friends conversant with horoscope after examining our horoscope opined that marriage between should not have been done as per the horoscope. We are blessed with a girl in our 34 years of wedded life. My wife is more responsible for the welfare of all members in the family than I, and she believes vice versa. Your article made me to write this, strangely. And, I fully concur with your views based on my experience. We should learn to love everyone, respect all, and help the needy. God’s blessings are essential, of course.
